Hey there,

I'm not sure if you are aware but there is a collection of magicians in the PDX area and the "COUV" that meet regularly. We welcome all magicians in the area, and if you are not a magician but would like to see some live magic, I will be posting a calendar soon of the events in the area.

To name a few, The Vancouver Community Center (Marshall) will be offering magic classes in the winter.

My goodness time is just flying! There has been an ongoing repeat of THEM (Totally Hidden Extreme Magic) over the past few weeks.

There is a new venue in Sunnyvale open to non magicians to see some high profile talent, called the Magic Garage....some info can be seen here...

Hey there world,

I know I'm all slack dackery when it comes to updates. For that I apologize. After many shows in the past few months, and with a lot of feedback, I have decided to remove my "Escape" routine, featuring the handcuffs, from my act. No no...you can't talk me out of it.

Instead, I have been dabbling with an even more dangerous effect. I can't go into it here, but here is a hint...

That's right, I'm gonna morph into a young British kid with a blueish face! Live!

OH..and DON'T try that at home. It is JUST an illusion, and I am doing a much "larger" and funnier version.

I will be performing my new stage show on 6/26-6/28 at the US Women's Expo at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Magic Lessons

Hey there,

I shouldn't have promised more frequent updates. I'll make a valiant effort to update this at least once a week. I was hoping to have new tricks for you to learn on here, or links to some cool magicians from youtube. In keeping in that vain, here's a video of one of my buddies and his great mind reading effect...

Also, I have a lot of public shows at various fairs and festivals coming up and I'd love to see ya. I'll post those once I get the confirmed dates (most are mid summer).

Radio Magic, and new clip

Hello World,

I know I made a promise to update here more often, but I've been developing a new effect where I can read your mind virtually. I tried the effect while I was on the radio a few weeks ago, and it went well. I'm on my way to film it and add it to my youtube videos. I'll post the link when it's ready.

There is a new newsletter on the webpage. As always it has a simple trick to do (trick of the month). Any feedback of these effects would be appreciated.

I performed at the Chili Cookoff for the San Jose Police Department last weekend and got some good footage on tape.

All in all, things are just chugging along. I will be performing closeup magic for patients at O Connor Hospital on Tuesday.

I just got back from a nice road trip to Southern California, and did some magic down there.

Festival Season

Hey all,

As the weather starts warming up (which doesn't take much, as we had a nice winter), we find ourselves getting closer to festival season.

The great thing about this is that the Bay Area, and San Jose specifically has such individual (read: sometimes really weird) festivals and a bunch of Art and Wine Festivals.

Most of these festivals have rock bands and singers, etc. I have been discussing this appeal with some of them and they have been receptive to having some magic shows. The dates of these performances will be posted soon.

There is also a Chili Cookoff fundraiser for the San Jose Police Department that I will be performing at. Chili and Magic...does it get any better than that?

I also will be performing a few routines for a cabaret style show in Oakland. Oakland!!! If anyone would consider coming to this and wants to ride with me...there is safety in numbers. haha.

Other than that, I saw the Farewell Performance from Siegfried and Roy

And it is quite well done. Roy is still in pretty bad shape, but it was a good special, and the standing ovation at the end was great.

Hey all,

If you saw my show and think it was not the best...then ummm....my name is David Blaine.

I will be working on my new demo dvd and have a lot of smaller events I will be taping. If you would like to be featured, let me know and I will make sure to pick you as a volunteer.

And Finally, I will be teaching magic classes at various community centers in San Jose throughout the summer. I'll have the class schedule posted as soon as I get it.

New site and Video

Hey everyone.

I also will have a new site launching in the next week or so. It will have free tricks, a lot of tips for planning an event, a lot of pictures, media, feedback forms, and all kinds of other goodies. I'm also thinking of transferring the blog to Wordpress to optimize my RSS feed.

Other than that..I've found a new performance space. A few people have asked where they can see me perform for the under 21. The 4th Friday of every month (next one is Feb 27th) at Monsieur Beans in Willow Glen.

Last Friday was my first time performing there, and the other groups were so passionate and present. I opened the night with a card trick and it went very well. I might upload the video, we'll see.

A few libraries will be having me perform for them in April. I know that's so far off, but I'm giving you the heads up now.

Be Careful...

Hey there,

I watched Masters of Illusion again this week, and I have to say they are kind of lacking. There are some definite strong points...For instance, this week featured Tim Burgoon, and Tommy the toilet roll, who I had read about, but never seen. But there are also some definite bad points. Maybe not bad, just lacking.

It bums me out that magic shows on TV try, but most don't achieve their potential. The idea of a magic show competition of sorts sounded promising til I heard that it was celebrities doing the competing (Celebricadabra). Many shows end up in this same category, and most non-magicians associate magicians to this.

David Blaine and Criss Angel brought magic back to TV, and the masses, but both take very liberal use of camera edits to achieve magic. I have read some review of Criss Angel's new Live show in Vegas, and have heard that he is a definite tv magician. That saddens me.

Don't get me wrong, I try to be positive when it comes to magic, and the two previously mentioned magicians have helped. But I secretly hope that Lance Burton, or David Copperfield would show up every once in awhile.

This is longer than I originally intended it to be. The last thing I kind of want to mention is, when you are hiring entertainment, and have decided on a magician, do some research. You wouldn't hire a stage magician to do a cocktail party, but you also want to check out your clowns before you book them for your child's birthday party. Masters of Illusion?

Hey all,

On Monday a new series of magic launched. Every Monday, some of the best stars of magic will be featured in this one hour program. It's on My network tv. With what I saw on Monday, and based on the reaction of my roomate, the show was lacking. I hope it picks up in the coming weeks.

I've noticed lately that there has been a huge interest in magic in the bay area. It's all over the place in San Francisco, and even San Jose as shows in various venues every other month.

you may have heard of the Magic Castle, the official magic club in Hollywood. Well, San Francisco has it's own version of that called the magic garage. It was featured on Bay Area Backroads last year. It looks pretty cool. More information on that is here www.themagicgarage.net/aboutus.html

I've been asked to perform at a local cancer fundraiser in the next few months. Come check it out....I'd love to see ya!

Kids Say the Darndest Things!

Hey there again all,

I hope your holidays went well, and that you are staying warm and dry...or at least trying to.

Last week I was blessed with the opportunity to perform some closeup magic for some kids at the home of a buddy of mine. It had been awhile since I had done some of the effects, and the reactions I received reminded me of why I do magic.

I'm going to be interviewed for a story in the Saratoga times tomorrow. I will post the ecopy here or on the site directly when it's published.

I was talking to my videographer, and it sounds like my demo is almost done. I'm really excited about it's progress, and even more excited to share it with everyone.

My monthly stint at Rooster T Feathers is coming up again on January 21st. If you are 21 and up...come on out. It's always a good time, good comedy, and ok food.

As always, thank you all for coming to my shows, giving me feedback, and helping me be the best I can be. I truly am blessed with the ability to perform for anyone who is willing to watch.

It's been a great 2008, and let's have an amazing 2009.

Classes and Ebook

Recently I asked for some input for my website. I appreciate all of the feedback and will be incorporating this information with the new site overhaul.

The closeup work on Friday was fun. It's definitely Winter, but the looks on some of the family's faces was worth it.

I'm transitioning the stage show a bit more as there are a few more things that can use some tinkering.

I am going to be teaching a magic camp at various community centers from spring, going into summer.

While not all of the material I used to lecture with will make it to the class I really want to say thanks to everyone for sticking with me. Soon I will have a ebook pdf free download with a few simple effects using everyday objects.

As this year comes to a close, I want to thank everyone for sticking with me, cheering me on, and being the best and most loyal friends I could ask for.

Christmas in the Park

Hey all,

So I performed after the San Jose Holiday Parade. I really am beginning to despise this whole "holiday season", and "holiday bush" PC thing. I digress.

The show on Sunday went well, there was a large crowd. Aside from some microphone problems, and my lovely assistant losing a leg, it went off without a hitch. Normally the volunteer during the Sword Thru Neck routine gets a little antsy, but Dominic was awesome and a total great sport. I wish someone had taken pictures.

I am going to be taking to the streets this Friday in the Winter Wonderland. I haven't had a chance to showcase the one on one strolling magic for awhile, and it will be great to tap back into that. I also have been talking to a couple of hospitals about doing magic for some of their patients.

I've been watching some of these shows based overseas that have to do with ESP, and minor mental experiments. You know when you have someone on your mind and the phone rings, and it's that person? Or you have a song stuck in your head, and it's not a cool song like "Can't Hurry Love" by Phil Collins, but something like "Mandy" by Barry Manilow. Then you turn on the radio, and that song is on? Some people call it coincidence, but it's more fun to call it intuition.

So here is my first experiment. It's online, and even though you're at home or work, and I'm here I'm going to read your mind. Baby steps...I'm new to this.

Think of a whole number between 1 and 3, exclusive. Concentrate...Concentrate...and even though you're at home or work, and I'm here, I predict that you chose the number...... 2!!!!

Learning as I go

When I perform I show you, the audience year's worth of practice and polishing, and what I found was a pretty solid show. I am always looking for feedback, and input and I incorporate when necessary.

I did a show today at Christmas in the Park. It went quite well, and as with every performance I learned a few things, and continue to retool the show, aiming for the best for you guys.

Escape?

Hello,

I've premiered my new routine, and it's gotten some great reviews. I'll be posting a sample of it in the video section pretty soon.

In other news, I am in discussion with the San Jose Community Center to teach magic classes. I also am teaming up with the San Jose Fire Department providing entertainment to the camps that they put on.

Summertime Blues

Hey gang,

You may know that I've been working on some exciting, new routines for my stage show. One of the routines is coming along quite nicely. It is set in an airplane, and with all of the new rules and fees on the airplanes, I get new material for this routine daily simply by reading the news.

My other routine is still a work in progress, as one of the songs used has been pulled. I will be launching both of these routines for the first time at the Taste of Morgan Hill on September 28th at 10:30 a.m.
